The Longboat Key Center for the Arts, features a permanent collection and changing exhibits of juried and invitational shows and hosts art classes, workshops, and cultural events.

Community theatre is across the north bridge at the Island Players on Anna Maria Island or the Manatee Players Theatre in Bradenton.

Only minutes from the south bridge, Sarasota’s many cultural offerings include the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center, Asolo Theater, Ringling Museum, Sarasota Ballet, Opera, and several live theater options.

Sarasota’s cultural season begins each fall with an International Arts Festival. Held on the grounds of the Ringling Museum, a full week of cutting-edge music, theatre, dance and visual arts are displayed and performed within Ringling’s tranquil 66 acre waterfront setting.

A massive selection of Rubens and a noteworthy structural piece called…” Skyspace” by artist James Turrell is on display in the Ringling Museum’s permanent collection. Also on the grounds are Ringling’s Mansion and Circus Museum.

The Asolo multi-theatre complex is home to a leading regional theatre company. Multiple stages provide a season of classic and modern drama including year round performances by the Florida State University’s graduate theatre program.

The Sarasota Ballet offers seven performances from September through April while the Sarasota Orchestra and Sarasota Opera present a Winter Festival with four fully staged operas from February through March.

Sarasota’s waterfront is the backdrop for the “Season of Sculpture” where global artists are reviewed and invited to join a select group each fall for a six month installation.

Venice’s Chalk Festival is also held in the fall and is the first to the U.S. attracting International street artists dazzling on-lookers with three dimensional illusions.
